Directions:
It is a tricky access to get from Gordon Drive to Correctionville Road. Unfortunately, the above map does NOT show the
access road; I couldn't fit all of that into one image. I decided to include Gordon Drive, however, as a reference point.
On Gordon Drive, look for the South Martha ST intersection. There is a stoplight at this intersection and an access road
to a Taco John, Wendy's, and Earl May Garden Center. Turn north and you'll go over a small bridge to Green AV. Follow Green
AV east until it joins to Correctionville Road (pictured on the map).
Not all of the lines above the Bacon Creek Park ENTRANCE are roads. Bacon Creek is a cul-de-sac. Parking is readily available
so you can follow the walking trail to the North end and West side of the pond; probably the best birding areas because of
the variety of habitat and fewer people. The walking trail circles the pond.
Description:
Bacon Creek Park is operated by the City of Sioux City Parks Department. As such, the daily hours of operation are somewhat
more restricted than other birding areas. The park is also quite popular for family picnics, fishing, paddle boat rentals,
and walking. There are several playgrounds within the boundaries of the park. As such, during mid-day and evenings, the can
be quite a few people enjoying the great outdoors.
It is 239 acres of lawn, retired agricultural land, woodland, nonnative grassland, and reconstructed prairie with a large
pond.
