                      Luton Wildlife Area

The Luton Wildlife Area (LWA) is a 1,082 acre marsh and consists of 2 areas about 2 miles apart. Both are DNR wetland/grassland  areas and one is located southeast of Luton and the other is northeast of Luton. LWA north was acquired in 2008 and is being developed into a wetland/grassland with ponds etc. LWA south has been in existence for a few years. Both areas are good for wetland/grassland species during migration and for summer residents.

LWA south directions: From Sioux City, go south on hwy 75 (K45) to D51 and go east on D51 for 4 miles to Luton and go south thru Luton on K42 1 mile to 260th street (just before the bridge) and turn east on 260th for one half mile to LWA south. (There is a parking lot on the north side of the road.) The gravel road (no outlet to east) runs for one half mile along the south side of the area and water is visible near the road in the spring for some good viewing of waterfowl etc.

LWA north directions: From LWA south, go back to Luton and go east for 1 mile on 250th for 1 mile to Delaware Ave. and turn north for one half mile to LWA north, continuing on to 240th and go west and LWA north is on both sides of the road.  Go 1 mile to Dallas Ave. (K42) and turn north for 1 mile and LWA north will be to the east as you travel north for a mile. (You could also reach LWA north from Luton by going north out of Luton on Dallas Ave. (K42) for 1 mile until you come to 240th.)
